Annunciation parishioners spread the holiday spirit to those in need

Dec 15, 2016 | Lifestyles

Parishioners of the Church of the Annunciation in Elma each year share the joy of the Christmas season through the Stars of Bethlehem program. On Thanksgiving weekend, stars are displayed on church windows with the first name, age and situation of a person who needs some hope, joy and love at Christmas.

Father Eugene Ulrich, pastor of Annunciation, asks parishioners to reflect on the many blessings God has given them in their lives and out of gratitude take a star, if they are able, pray for that individual and purchase a gift to bless them at Christmas. Gifts are brought back the third weekend of Advent.

This year, more than 475 gifts were distributed to organizations that offer assistance, including FISH of East Aurora, Scofield Nursing Home, Baker Victory Services, St. Lawrence Church, SS Rita and Patrick Church, St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy, Lackawanna Food Pantry and Our Lady of Black Rock School. The team of Maureen Ludwig, Molly Moessinger, Judy Rusnak and Mary Kay Schaub took requests, prepared the stars and coordinated the delivery of the gifts.
