Best-selling author visits Clinton Street Elementary School

Nov 13, 2016 | Entertainment

Children’s author Eric Litwin had K-3 students singing and dancing in their seats when he visited Clinton Street Elementary in West Seneca on Wednesday, Nov. 9. The former teacher turned No. 1 New York Times Best-Selling Author is known for writing the first four books in the popular “Pete the Cat” series as well as “The Nuts” and “Groovy Joe.”

According to Litwin’s website, his books sold over 8.5 million copies, have been translated into 13 languages and won 18 literacy awards. He is the innovator of multi-learning books meaning he interweaves traditional reading methods such as sight-words and phonetics with music, singing, movement, rhyme, rhythm, call-and-response and repetition.

“I think it’s very important that we should love reading,” Litwin said. “You can sound them out, rhyme them, sing them. That’s what makes my books different.”

The author not only talked about his books but he played guitar and sang songs, creating a concert-like atmosphere in the cafeteria. Students also had the opportunity to listen to Litwin sing read/sing aloud his not-yet-released book “Groovy Joe Ice Cream and Dinosaurs” and learn the groovy dance for a contest coming up in February. A great time was had by all in attendance!
