Bishop Timon to honor members of the community

Dec 20, 2017 | Events

In 1980, the Bishop Timon High School Athletic Hall of Fame was established as a means of recognizing alumni who have excelled in athletics as Timon students and beyond. Members of the Athletic Hall of Fame represent the competitive spirit of Timon while exuding a spirit of sportsmanship, teamwork and leadership.

A decade later, in 1994, The John Timon Society was established to honor and recognize Timon alumni who exemplify what a true Timon man is. These alumni demonstrate the character and leadership of the man, Bishop John Timon, first bishop of Buffalo, by living the spirit and characteristics of St. Francis of Assisi and the Franciscan charism.

Over the past three decades, the Athletic Hall of Fame and The John Timon Society have hosted separate events that have provided the entire Timon community with opportunities to celebrate and honor alumni who have made significant contributions on athletic teams and those who have made significant contributions in their professions and to their community.

On Feb. 17, 2018, the Timon community will celebrate the athletic and professional achievements of alumni in a single event called Timon Honors Night! Erik T. Bohen ’00 and Daniel J. Granville ’96 will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame and Victor C. Laudisio ’68 and James E. Hatem ’76 will be inducted into The John Timon Society.

In addition, individuals who have distinguished themselves in the community by giving unselfishly of their time and talents will be recognized with the Paul Lempko ’54 Alumni Appreciation Award, Tom Sands ’53 Community Service Award, Fr. Claude Kean Builders Award and the Spirit of St. Francis Award.

The Paul Lempko Alumni Appreciation Award will be presented to B. Jay Ryan ’98, the Tom Sands Community Service Award will be awarded to Matthew A. Struzik ’95, the Spirit of St. Francis Award will be given to James J. Rzad ’66 and the Fr. Claude Kean Builders Award will be given to Gene Overdorf  ’71.

Timon Honors Night will be held at The Columns, 2221 Transit Road, Elma, with cocktails starting at 6 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person. Please RSVP by Feb. 7. For more information, please call the Advancement Office at Timon at 826-3610, ext. 246 or e-mail pa*******@bi*********.com.
