Oct 12, 2017 | Sports Scene

The Buffalo Bandits today announced the Buffalo Bandettes will be holding auditions for the 2017-18 squad. The dance team, run by newly-appointed coordinator Lauren Kirchmyer, is looking for 12 dancers to perform at all of the Bandits’ home games.

Kirchmyer rejoins the dance team as the new Bandettes Coordinator after spending five seasons as a Bandette from 2011 to 2015. She was a captain, dancer and choreographer for the Bandettes during that span and has been a dance educator in the Western New York area since 2009.

The tryouts will take place on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 2 to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Steppin’ Out Dance Academy, located at 266 Center Road, West Seneca. Dancers must register online and pay a $25 fee in order to be entered into the tryouts.

Doors will open at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday and dancers are asked to bring a headshot upon arrival. Saturday’s session will consist of learning choreography and casual, comfortable attire to dance in is suggested. Doors will open at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday and full hair and makeup is required, along with a half top, dance shorts, tights and sneakers. Group stretch will begin at 9 a.m. and then dancers will have to perform the audition routine and go through a brief interview. The dance team will be announced after all registered dancers have auditioned.

Once the 2017-18 Bandettes Dance Team is named, contracts and tentative schedules will be distributed. Practices will take place from 8:45 to 10:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with the first practice taking place on Nov. 7. Bandettes are expected to act as mentors to the Junior Bandettes while also contributing to the community through community service events and appearances.
