Buffalo Bandits to host ‘Tucker Out Lymphoma Night’ this Saturday

Apr 15, 2016 | Sports Scene

The Buffalo Bandits will host the third annual Tucker Out Lymphoma Night on Saturday, April 16 when the Toronto Rock visit First Niagara Center.

Multiple events and fundraisers will be take place throughout the evening in memory of Tucker Williams. Tucker, the son of assistant coach Shawn Williams, lost his battle with Burkitt Lymphoma in 2015.

“In 2014, Tucker Out Lymphoma night was formed to help Tucker and the Williams family fight his dreaded disease. Last year we honored Tucker’s life and his brave battle,” said Bandits Director of Lacrosse Operations Scott Loffler. “This year and future Tucker Out Lymphoma nights will carry on Tucker’s legacy and help others that are affected by this disease, which is exactly what Tucker would want. He’s never far from our minds and always close to our hearts.”

Tickets for the game are still available, including a special $15 price for 100 Level ends and all 300 Level seats. All proceeds from the fundraisers during the night, as well as $2 from every specially-priced ticket, will go toward the Braver Than Brave fund and Western New York cancer care.

As part of the pre-game ceremony, Tucker’s sister Dylana Williams will sing the Canadian national anthem.

During the game, Bandits players will be wearing special 2016 “Braver Than Brave” jerseys that were designed by Tucker’s brother, Dyson, and best friend, Zach Toll, with the help of Projoy and Shawn Williams. The game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off at a later date via Bandits.com. Each player will be honoring a loved one of their own with a patch on their shorts. This season, the jerseys will include dimes sewn into the uniform under the honorary patch on the right chest of the jersey in honor of Tucker.

“We are so happy that this year’s Tucker Out Lymphoma Night jerseys have special Tucker dimes sewn into them,” Shawn Williams said. “When we find dimes, we see them as gifts from Tucker as he sends us sweet messages of love at the most significant times and places. Scott Loffler, who spearheads this special night, has been the recipient of many of Tucker’s dimes. The dimes help us keep faith that Tucker lives in the hearts of everyone who loves him. Thank you for the dimes, Tucker. Please keep sending them our way. We love you and miss you so much.”

Replica “Braver Than Brave” jerseys will be available in the store throughout the game, with $50 from each non-lettered jersey sale and $75 from each lettered jersey sale going directly to the Braver Than Brave fund. Special Tucker T-shirts will also be available for $18 each.

A basket raffle featuring Bandits players’ favorite items will begin at 6 p.m. and end at the start of the third quarter in the 100 level concourse. The baskets will be put together by the Bandits players themselves. The team will also be selling 500 autographed orange, white and green lacrosse balls for $10 each.

The Bandits will also be hosting a Bald for Bucks event on April 16 at 4:30 p.m. All participants who raised at least $150 by April 14 will receive two tickets to the game on April 16. In addition, each of the top 20 fundraisers will have the option to get their heads shaved by a Bandits player.
