Buffalo Irish Center to presents Celtic Whispers Across the Wild Atlantic Way

Jan 15, 2018 | Arts & Culture

The Buffalo Irish Center Guest Speaker Forum will welcome Dr. Rosanne L. Higgins to the Claddagh Room at 245 Abbott Road on Sunday, Jan. 28 at 3 p.m.

Dr. Higgins is an adjunct professor of anthropology at the University at Buffalo and is the author of the Orphans and Inmates series. This series chronicles three sisters who are orphaned during their voyage from Ireland to America during the 19th century and must seek refuge at the Erie County Poorhouse upon their arrival in Buffalo.

Forgotten pieces of Buffalo’s history are revealed in each book as the sisters come of age in the burgeoning city. Her fifth book, Girl on the Shore, brings the characters back to Ireland to the remote island of Inis Mór while the sisters unravel the mystery of why they left their country in the first place.

In her talk titled Celtic Whispers Across the Wild Atlantic Way, Dr. Higgins will share her research in developing Girl on the Shore. Copies of her book will be available for purchase. Following her presentation, Dr. Higgins will autograph books for attendees.

Proceeds from book sales will benefit the Buffalo Irish Center. Please visit www.rosannehiggins.com for online purchasing.
