Have you ever lost a pet? To many, losing a pet is like losing a member of the family.

When Christie Selbert lost her pomapoo Cookie about a year and a half ago, she lost one of her best friends. “It broke my heart,” she said.

Wanting to do something in Cookie’s memory, Selbert was inspired to create paw print stepping stones. Happy with how the concrete stepping stones turned out, she posted photos of them on social media.

Within minutes, Selbert had friends asking her if they could purchase stones of their own. “I thought to myself maybe this was a sign from Cookie, that this was meant to be and my stones should be out there for other people to enjoy,” she shared. “It was wonderful to know there are a lot of people out there that love their animals as much as I loved mine.”

About five months ago she began making and selling her stones, which can be personalized to fit your animal’s personality. Currently her stepping stones are being sold at the SPCA in Tonawanda, Splash and Dash on French and Transit, Grassroots Mercantile – Windsor Village, as well as on Facebook through Selbert’s page “C&C Creations.” She also works with local rescue sites Akron Canine Rescued Angels and Black Dog, Second Chance Rescue, and a portion of her proceeds goes to each of these rescues.

“I could not believe how fast it took off,” Selbert said. “I am a mother with a full time job and spend almost every night making my items, with the help of my family and my mother. I believe this was meant to be for me; I’m supposed to be making these and my business is only going to grow.”
