Enjoy The Journey Art Gallery announces a variety of creative events

Jul 7, 2017 | Arts & Culture

West Seneca’s Enjoy The Journey Art Gallery, located at 1168 Orchard Park Road, has announced a wide variety of creative events taking place in the coming days, weeks and months.

A members’ exhibit, “Influence of the 20th Century Masters,” continues to run through Friday, July 28. Guests are invited to view the work of the artists and guess who influenced their careers.

August’s exhibit, “Life’s A Beach,” will be introduced with a free opening reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4. Artwork is still being accepted for this exhibit, and details can be found on the gallery’s website.

A Zentangle Triple Cards class with artist Kelly Barone will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 19. This trifold peek-a-boo card will let you create cards that catch everyone’s attention. This is a great class to take even if you don’t do a lot of card making because the focus will be on merging one Zentangle pattern into another. Learn how to cut these cards, transition patterns and complete at least one card that is sure to amaze! The cost is $35. Please bring a beginner kit of pens and pencils to class.

Concrete Leaves for Your Garden with Virginia Koeppel will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 26. Each student will need to bring a Hosta leaf (or another large garden leaf) with them to class — the bigger the better — and will make a concrete leaf to decorate their garden, patio or home. Guests will need to bring rubber gloves, Saran wrap, a large wooden board to work on and a leaf or two not bigger than your board. After drying time, the group will meet again from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, to paint and seal the leaf with outdoor acrylic paint and sealant spray. Participants must bring the paint and spray of their choice on the second night, and the class cost is $35.

A Bun Basket Class with Maureen Quale takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2. This beautiful basket starts with a six-inch round solid wood base. A variety of color choices will be available. Start-stop weaving and twining will be used. The finished product rounds out to approximately seven inches wide and six to seven inches high and is finished with a lashed rim and small leather handles, making it both functional and pretty! The cost is $40.

Tiny Gems, a two-evening workshop with artist Bernice Smith, is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15 and 22. All skill levels are accepted, from beginner to advanced. Guests will paint tiny gems that work well as showpieces, gifts or as treasures for a small space. The cost is $40 and a supply list can be found on the gallery’s website.

A Plein Air Outdoor Painting Workshop with Bernice Smith is planned from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19. This class is meant to get artists comfortable taking their work outdoors. If you are an indoor painter and want to experience the joy of working in nature or a new painter looking for a challenge, there is nothing like painting from real subjects and not just looking at photos which tend to be flat. The cost is $45.

Fall Acrylic Painting classes with Bernice Smith will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evenings, Sept. 12, 19, 26 and Oct. 3. Participants will do a small exercise to spur their creativity, paint what they prefer to paint, join in for a critique, learn some new skills and enjoy painting with friends!

Summer hours at the gallery are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday through Sept. 4, and the gallery will be closed July 11-14. For more information on Enjoy The Journey, please call 675-0204, visit http://etjgallery.com or follow the gallery on Facebook for frequent updates.
