Explore Buffalo plans George Urban Estate Spotlight Tour

Oct 23, 2018 | Arts & Culture

Explore Buffalo, a nonprofit organization providing tours and other opportunities where guests can discover Buffalo’s great architecture, history and neighborhoods, will offer a George Urban Estate Spotlight Tour on Saturday, Nov. 10. Tours will be offered at 11 a.m., noon, 1 and 2 p.m. at 280 Pine Ridge Road, Cheektowaga.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, George Urban Jr. was one of Buffalo’s most prominent citizens. The owner of a major flour mill in Buffalo, he was also a pioneer in hydroelectric development and a financier involved with several local banks. George Urban Jr. was also a backer of Grover Cleveland’s political ambitions as well as the 1901 Pan-American Exposition.

This Spotlight Tour of the George Urban Jr. home in Cheektowaga is a special opportunity to see inside the home of one of Buffalo’s civic leaders from the turn of the 20th century. Still a private residence today, much of the home’s interior is original to George Urban Jr.’s time, including extraordinary woodwork. All three floors of the George Urban Jr. home will be included on this Spotlight Tour.

Limited parking is available on site. Additional on-street parking is available on Pine Ridge Road, and parking is also available at Villa Maria College, half a block away at Pine Ridge Road and Pennock Place.

Space on this tour is limited, and advance reservations are required. This Spotlight Tour will be approximately one hour in length, and interior photography is allowed.

The cost is $20 general admission and $15 for Explorer Pass holders. Reservations can be made at www.explorebuffalo.org or by calling (716) 245-3032.
