LIV Travel Dance Team to perform first showcase

May 2, 2016 | Arts & Culture, Entertainment, Events

LIV Travel Dance Team invites you to attend their first showcase, taking place at 8 p.m. May 7 in the drama theatre at the University at Buffalo. The show consists of a small group of 14 dancers performing 42 pieces of amazing choreography from around the world.

The evening will last approximately two hours, with a 10-minute intermission, and feature dance styles including contemporary, lyrical, jazz and a guest Aab ballet piece. Tickets are $18.50 and can be purchased at the box office in the Center for the Arts at UB or at tickets.com.

LIV is in its first year. Director Rebecca Wind wanted to provide different opportunities for serious dance students, and believes it is important for dancers to travel and train on both the east and west coast before looking at higher education programs and eventually employment.

The season began in August, with the dancers training 13 to 15 hours each week. Over the past nine months, the dancers had the chance to train in Toronto, New York City and Los Angeles with professionals such as Andrew Winghart, Talia Favia, Chaz Buzan, Joey Dowling, Shannon Mather and more. They had the opportunity to take classes at studios such as Millennium in LA and tour locations including Julliard in NYC. Outside of training and rehearsals, the students participated in conventions including NYCDA in Chicago and Buffalo, 24Seven in Pittsburgh and Jump in Buffalo.

Dancers interested in auditioning for the 2016-17 LIV Travel Dance Team should upload and email a video audition to li*******************@ao*.com by June 1. There are three parts to the video audition:

  1. Introductory Section: A brief close-up shot of the dancer (face or half body) in which the dancer clearly states his or her full name and age.
  2. Performance Section: A prepared solo, either ballet, contemporary or jazz. It should demonstrate the dancer’s artistic qualities and flow of movement. This should be approximately two to three minutes. The dancer may include a second solo in another style if desired, but this is not required. Please state the title of the solo and the choreographer.
  3. Improvisation Section: One- to two-minute movement improvisation.

Applicants may be asked to attend a live audition after submitting a video. Dancers will be contacted within two weeks of the submission and all ages are welcome. Next year’s outline includes level II Paula Morgan technique, ballet, jazz, contemporary, stretch, strength and conditioning, foam rolling/ball class, guest classes, guest choreography, acting and performance class; trips to Toronto, NYC and LA; as well as an agent meet and greet.
