Marvin Lunenfeld Beautification Grant applications now available

Jan 27, 2019 | Arts & Culture

The Garden Walk Buffalo Marvin Lunenfeld Beautification Grants, named for Garden Walk Buffalo’s founder, have been working to beautify Buffalo for over 13 years. The initiative has funded over 100 garden beautification projects across the West Side of Buffalo totaling more than $100,000 since 2005.

Garden Walk Buffalo highlights the transformation of our region at the grassroots level, driven by amazing people planting something beautiful in their own neighborhoods. The event showcases our regions neighborhood spirit, inspiring architecture, magnificent waterfront, and especially its record number of spectacular gardens. One objective is to give back to the community by supplying funds to blocks clubs and neighborhood groups that want to improve their streets and become part of this wonderful weekend event.

Since the program launched, the Marvin Lunenfeld Beautification Grants have helped to fund projects including community gardens, hanging flower baskets, street corner planter projects, garden restoration and more.

Award amounts are based on overall project cost. Projects are required to include matching funds from government, private contributions or volunteer sweat equity. These award projects will be highlighted during the coming year’s Garden Walk.

Completed applications are due Feb. 28 with anticipated funding awards announced in early spring of 2019. Applications and eligibility requirements can be found at GardenWalkBuffalo.com or call 247-5004 for a mailed application. The application process is easy and Garden Walk offers assistance if there are any questions.

Garden Walk Buffalo, the largest garden tour in the U.S., is held the last weekend of July each year. In 2019, the free event will be Saturday and Sunday, July 27 and 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In 2018, more than 400 residences and businesses throughout the West Side of Buffalo opened their creative urban gardens for tens of thousands of visitors from around the U.S., Canada, and abroad.
