Apr 27, 2018 | Entertainment

Fifty Mount Mercy Academy students, members of three musical performance groups, recently traveled to Orlando, Fla. to participate in the Disney Festival.  Fred Kirisits, Mount Mercy’s long-time music teacher, led the Pure Magic Show Choir, Magic Belles and the Women’s Choir as the director. All three groups attained a superior rating.

The Pure Magic Show Choir is comprised of 22 young women who not only sing but also dance while singing. The group’s choreographer is Justine Kish- Podsiadlo, a 2005 Mount Mercy graduate. Not only did they receive a superior rating with a score of 94.3, they finished as the top performer in their category.

Magic Belles

The Magic Belles earned the fifth highest score out of all the groups who performed at the festival with a 96.7. Fifteen young women combined to ring wonderful melodies including “The Irish Washerwoman” with Irish Dancer Anna Hagner (Buffalo).

The 34-member Women’s Choir, in addition to its superior rating, finished second in its category. They earned a score of 95.
