New book profiles nearly fifty Roycroft Master Artisans

Jun 10, 2015 | In the News

“Head, Heart & Hands: Continuing the Handcrafted Tradition of the Original Roycroft Artisans” by West Seneca author Joe Kirchmyer, will be available for sale for the first time during the annual Roycroft Summer Festival. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 27-28 on the grounds of Parkdale Elementary School, 141 Girard Ave., East Aurora.

The 136-page book, published by No Frills Buffalo, profiles nearly 50 current Roycroft Master Artisans who specialize in art forms such as glass, leather, metal, jewelry, painting, book arts, printing, paper, fiber, weaving, pottery and wood. In the book, the artists open up about their training, inspirations, travel, goals, proudest moments, relationship to the Roycroft community and much more.

Additionally, the book features a brief history of the Roycrofters-At-Large Association, details on the organization’s jury process, and a tribute to Kitty Turgeon, one of the original Roycrofters-At-Large Association founders who passed away on Nov. 3, 2014.

Kirchmyer, owner of Kirchmyer Media LLC and co-creator of the popular new website BuffaloScoop.com, worked for 20 years at The Buffalo News before opening his communications company in 2009. He has had two other books published by No Frills Buffalo, including “Diamonds in the Rough,” a compilation of sports and motivational stories, and “Most Likely to Survive,” the true story of West Seneca native Matthew Faulkner’s incredible recovery from traumatic brain injury.

Kirchmyer and several of the Roycroft Master Artisans will be available during the Roycroft Summer Festival to sign copies of the book, available for $17.95 plus tax. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each book will benefit the Roycrofters-At-Large Association.
