NFB Publishing releases first novel by former CIA case officer

Jun 28, 2018 | In the News

Local author J.R. Seeger’s book, “MIKE4,” is the latest release from Buffalo-based NFB Publishing.

Seeger is a Western New York native who served as a U.S. Army paratrooper and as a CIA case officer for a total of 27 years of federal service. He now splits his time between Western New York and Central New Mexico, and this is his first novel.

“MIKE 4” is the call sign for Chief Warrant Officer Sue O’Connell, a Special Operations Force (SOF) surveillance specialist. She is the daughter of a pair of CIA agents and the granddaughter of a famous World War II OSS agent. She is part of a team that “finds and fixes in place” terrorists so that SOF assault teams can “finish” the target.

An injury forces O’Connell to join a team of SOF operators training to become counterterrorism intelligence collectors. While at the CIA Farm, she learns that her family has a more complex history in the CIA than she thought, a history that includes both counterintelligence secrets and a 60-year old Russian vendetta.

Sometimes, leaning family secrets can be painful. Sometimes, they can be deadly.

“If you like good takes of the shadowy, often hard-edged world of counterterrorism, read Mike4. Written by a veteran of ‘the community,’ it will teach while it entertains,” said General Stanley McChrystal, author of My Share of the Task: A Memoir and Team of Teams: New Rules of Engagement for a Complex World.
