Popular Amerks theme nights return throughout the month of March

Mar 2, 2018 | Sports Scene

The Rochester Americans are scheduled for seven home games during a busy month of March, highlighted by the return of several special and popular theme nights.

Sunday, March 4: Youth Hockey Day presented by UR Sports Medicine

The Amerks will celebrate Youth Hockey Day presented by UR Sports Medicine on Sunday, March 4 when they host the Laval Rocket at 3:05 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. Sunday’s game will also be part of the Hockey Weekend Across America celebration, held annually by USA Hockey in an effort to celebrate the game of hockey and those involved at all levels while also exposing the game to new audiences.

As part of the day, the Amerks are offering all registered USA Hockey members one free ticket to Sunday’s game with additional tickets for family and friends starting at $14. USA Hockey members can take advantage of the offer by visiting www.amerks.com/hwaa or presenting their USA Hockey membership card at The Blue Cross Arena Box Office. Additionally, local youth hockey players can receive a complimentary ticket to Sunday’s matchup by wearing their Youth Hockey Jersey to the game. All other kids tickets (aged 12 and under) are available just $10 each.

The first 500 people at Sunday’s game will receive Thundersticks, courtesy of UR Sports Medicine.

The game will also feature the annual chicken wing-eating contest sponsored by The Distillery, which will take place in the tunnel located between sections 114 and 116 during the first intermission. For the second straight year, fans were able to vote on their favorite wing sauce on Amerks social media channels. The contestant that eats the most chicken wings soaked in the winning sauce voted most popular by the fans on social media will win a prize pack courtesy of The Distillery and the Amerks.

Following Sunday’s game, Amerks players will stop by The Distillery, located at 3010 South Winton Road, for the final official postgame party of the season as fans are invited to join in. The Distillery will offer a variety of great food and drink specials while Amerks prizes will be given away throughout the party.

Friday, March 9: Irish Night presented by DDS Companies

The always-popular Irish Night presented by DDS Companies returns on Friday, March 9 when the team hosts the Providence Bruins at The Blue Cross Arena.

Start your St. Patrick’s Day festivities off right with the Amerks, who will again wear special Irish-themed jerseys for the game that will be auctioned off in the main concourse to benefit the St. Patrick’s Day Committee. Winners will receive the “jerseys off the backs” of the players following the game.

Irish Night T-Shirt packages will also be available. For just $30, fans can purchase a specialty St. Patrick’s Day T-shirt, along with one best-available ticket. Additional tickets begin as low as just $14. The packages can be purchased online at www.amerks.com/irish, in person at the Amerks office, or by phone at 1-855-GO-AMERKS (while supplies last).

The Irish Night festivities begin with an Amerks Happy Hour from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Genesee Brew House Upper Atrium Bar, where fans ages 21 and over can enjoy Genesee and Genesee Light drafts for just $2. There will also be live music from the band “1916” during Happy Hour and the first intermission. Formed as an acoustic pub act in 2006, the band 1916 has “transformed into the hardest hitting Irish Rock band this side of Dublin!” The game will also feature Irish music, Irish Dancers and Irish-themed Mystery Pucks, autographed by various Amerks players, available for $10 in the upper concourse.

Saturday, March 24: Dogs Night Out

The annual “Pucks and Paws” game has been rebranded as “Dogs Night Out,” but will still feature the same pet-friendly activities as in years past when the Amerks host the Springfield Thunderbirds on Saturday, March 24 at The Blue Cross Arena.

For the sixth straight year, fans are invited to bring their dogs to the game as the Amerks take on the Thunderbirds. Tickets for dog owners can be purchased for $20 along with a $5 cash donation at the door to benefit Lollypop Farm. The first 300 dogs in attendance will receive a free Amerks dog waste bag keychain. A portion of the proceeds from the Dogs Night Out Game will be donated to Lollypop Farm, which serves as the Humane Society of Greater Rochester and is committed to building lifelong bonds between people and animals through education, community outreach programs and the prevention of cruelty.

All fans with dogs in attendance at the Dogs Night Out Game will be seated in one of three dedicated sections for dogs known as “The Canine Corner” (211 – 213), as dogs will not be permitted in other sections or the suite level. Fans will be limited to bringing just one dog per person to the game.

Dogs Night Out tickets are available by visiting www.amerks.com/dogs, where fans can also upload a photo of their dog to be displayed on the video board during the game, which will feature plenty of canine-friendly themed events, including a “Pooch Parade” on the ice during intermission for a limited number of dogs. Informational tables will be set up on the concourse during the game for Lollypop Farm and other Rochester area dog-related agencies.

Friday, March 30: Be a Superhero at Donate Life Night presented by Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network

The Amerks are combining two of their most popular March theme nights into one as they have teamed up with Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network (FLDRN) to host Donate Life Night and Superhero Night on Friday, March 30 when they welcome the Charlotte Checkers back to The Blue Cross Arena.

This marks the sixth year in a row the Amerks have partnered with FLDRN to raise awareness for organ donation.

The Amerks game will provide an opportunity for FLDRN staff, volunteers and members of the Amerks Alumni Association to encourage people to enroll in the New York State Donate Life Registry at www.passlifeon.org to become an organ donor and help save lives. Registered organ donors can receive a complimentary ticket to that night’s game when they “show their heart” on their driver’s license at The Blue Cross Arena Box Office with additional tickets starting as low as just $14. Fans can take advantage of this special offer by visiting www.amerks.com/donatelife.

Additionally, any fan that signs up to be a donor at the game can receive two complimentary ticket vouchers to any remaining 2017-18 Amerks home game.

Members of the Amerks Alumni Association will be on-hand throughout the evening to speak with fans about the importance of organ donation and encourage fans to sign the New York State Donate Life Registry.

Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network coordinates organ donation in 20 counties with a population of 2.4 million and serves two transplant centers and 36 hospitals in the Finger Lakes Region, Central and Northern New York. Locally, more than 600 patients are currently waiting for a kidney, heart, liver or pancreas transplant. Hundreds of others will be helped this year by tissue transplants such as cornea, bone, tendon, ligaments and heart valves.

Superhero Night also returns for the third straight year. Fans will be treated to a special meet-and-greet with various characters from the Superhero Alliance of WNY, who will be in attendance to pose for photos and greet fans throughout the game.

Tickets for kids ages 12 and under can be purchased for just $10 apiece, with tickets for adults available for $14.
