Rochester Amerks to host Mental Health Awareness Night

Jan 12, 2016 | Sports Scene

The Rochester Americans will host Mental Health Awareness Night presented by East House on Friday, Jan. 15, when the Amerks play the Binghamton Senators at 7:05 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena.

“We are excited to partner with the Rochester Americans as we celebrate our 50th anniversary in the community,” said Greg Soehner, East House president and CEO. “Mental illness and substance use disorder can affect anyone, and we hope that our Mental Health Night with the Amerks helps to break down the stigma associated with these diseases and encourages people to talk about them.”

East House is a private nonprofit agency serving individuals with mental illness and/or substance use disorder with the goal of helping them to live independent and fulfilling lives. Through a network of services, which includes supported housing and care coordination as well as education and employment programs, East House treats the whole person. Now in its 50th year, East House helps more than 1,300 clients and their families annually. Through its 11 locations, East House continues to move lives forward each day.

“The Amerks are proud to partner with East House on Mental Health Awareness Night,” said Rob Kopacz, Amerks vice president of business operations. “Mental health-related issues can affect anyone at any time, making East House a vital resource for improving the well-being of people in our community.”

Representatives from East House will be on hand throughout Friday’s game to provide information on the services provided. They will also be raffling autographed Amerks memorabilia at their table to raise funds. Amerks players will show support for the cause by filming a public service announcement for East House.
