Employees and Friends of the West Seneca Public Library recently met with the librarians of the West Seneca Central School District to share some exciting details about the new town library that is presently under construction.
Upon completion, the library, which opened its doors at 1300 Union Road in 1958, will feature a MakerSpace, comfortable reading areas, computers/laptops, study/tutoring rooms, modern and accessible meeting room, teen area, children’s area, outdoor space, cafe, gymnasium and office spaces. The expansion is expected to be completed in the spring of 2018.
Though the library received grant money to help fund the project, it may only be used for construction purposes. During the meeting, the public library pitched an idea for the schools to get involved. Each school received an empty water jug with the tagline, “It takes CENTS to help the library grow!” The school that collects the most change by spring will win a grand prize — a private tour of the new library before it opens to the general public.
The school librarians are excited to be a part of making the town library a go-to location for students to visit. The fundraiser will also be a great way for students to have a voice and get what they desire out of the new library.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the school and town librarians to begin discussing plans and ideas for this school year’s Summer Reading Kick-Off, expected to take place in June.
