Tucker Out Lymphoma Night returns for fifth year

Apr 12, 2018 | Sports Scene

The Buffalo Bandits will host the fifth annual Tucker Out Lymphoma Night when the Toronto Rock visit KeyBank Center on Saturday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. The evening will honor the memory of Tucker Williams. Tucker, the son of former Bandits player Shawn Williams, lost his battle with Burkitt lymphoma in 2014.

“This year marks the fifth anniversary of Tucker Our Lymphoma Night, but it seems like yesterday we were planning the first,” said Bandits Director of Lacrosse Operations Scott Loffler. “Although we wish we never had to have this night, it is our favorite game of the year because we get to honor and remember a very special kid that meant a great deal to us all. We also get to carry on his messages of bravery, living more, laughing more and loving more. But let’s not forget we get to raise a great deal of money to help children who are fighting the same battle Tucker fought. This was Tucker’s wish, and we are honored to fulfill that for him.”

Dylana Williams, Tucker’s sister, will sing the Canadian national anthem prior to the game. During the game, Bandits players will wear special “Braver Than Brave” jerseys that were designed by Tucker’s brother, Dyson Williams. The game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off during the game on the 100 level concourse. Winners will be able to pick up their jerseys following the game. A special game ball featuring the Tucker Out Lymphoma logo will also be used throughout the contest.

The team’s “lacrosse ball surprise” will give fans the opportunity to purchase individually signed lacrosse balls for $10 each in the pavilion. Buffalo Bandettes will be on hand to assist with the sale. Signs that read “I fight for …” will also be available for fans to fill out and display during the game in honor of loved ones battling cancer.

A limited number of the “Braver Than Brave” replica jerseys will be available in the team store throughout the game and Tucker T-shirts will also be on sale in the store and merchandise locations. $75 from each jersey sold and $5 from each T-shirt sold will be donated to pediatric cancer care.

The Bandits will also be hosting a Bald for Bucks event prior to the game. At 4:30 p.m., each person that raises money for the “Buffalo Bandits Fan Team” will have the opportunity to get their heads shaved by a Bandits player. Proceeds from this event will benefit Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in the name of Tucker and the entire Williams family, and will be earmarked for the organization’s pediatric unit. To donate, visit baldforbucks.org.

Tickets in the 100 Level ends will be lowered to $20 and all 300 level seats will be discounted to $12 for the game. $2 from every specially priced ticket will go toward pediatric cancer care. Fans can purchase tickets online or at the box office.
