Main Street Marketplace, West Seneca’s popular open-air farmers’ and food producers’ marketplace sponsored by the Western New York Federal Credit Union, will return for its   third season on Thursday, May 12. The weekly event will take place on Thursday evenings through Sept. 1 on the grassy hill at the corner of Union Road and Main Street, next to West Seneca Town Hall.

The outdoor venue will feature approximately 25 vendors selling a wide variety of local products. For updates on participating vendors, please visit Main Street Marketplace, West Seneca on Facebook.

One local community group will host an informational table at the market each week. Guests are invited to bring a blanket or chairs for their comfort.  Opening Day on May 12 will also feature several members of the Buffalo Bandettes from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Open jam sessions will be held on July 21 and Aug. 25, when anyone with an instrument is invited to come out and play for fun and tips.

Several theme days are also being planned at the market. May 12 is Opening Day, followed by Kids Day on June 16, Celebrate America Day on July 7, Artisans Day on Aug. 4 and Customer Appreciation Day on Sept. 1. On July 28, the market will move down to the area near the Lions Band Shelter to take part in a major concert event.

Sure to be a family favorite, the market will also add a Family Fun Zone this season, featuring large games to be enjoyed by visitors of all ages. Games will include oversized “connect four,” Jenga and Checkers, a bean bag toss and hula hoops!

Well-behaved dogs are allow at the market on a leash. There will be no market on Thursday, June 23, due to West Seneca Community Days.

“We’re hoping the addition of several new vendors and products, entertainment every week, theme days and our Family Fun Zone will help attract a much larger audience to the market each week,” said West Seneca resident Joe Kirchmyer, the market’s organizer. “We invite families from West Seneca and beyond to come spend some time at the market, watch a baseball game in the park, enjoy live music and buy some amazing local produce and products from some great vendors!”

The market is held rain or shine. In the event of unfavorable weather, the market moves into the parking lot in front of the West Seneca Ice Rink.
