Young BSRA rowers place second at World Indoor Rowing Championship

The Buffalo Scholastic Rowing Association (BSRA) was well represented at the World Indoor Rowing Championship CRASH B Sprints held on Sunday, Feb. 25, at Agganis Arena on the campus of Boston University.

Team BSRA Girls rower Olivia Nasternak, a junior at St. Mary’s High School in Lancaster, competed in the Under 23 Women’s Flyweight (115 lbs. max) event. Nasternak placed second with a time of  7:53.2, which was just 4.7 seconds off of the first place rower, to earn a silver medal. The Team BSRA Girls are coached by Kimberly Lonas.

Nathaniel Sass, a junior at Canisius High School and a member of the Crusaders Crew varsity rowing team, competed in the Under 23 Men’s Flyweight (140 lbs. max) event. Sass earned a silver medal with a time of 7:09.2, 13.3 seconds off of first place. His coach at Canisius is Thomas Flaherty.

Founded in 2010 and located at 405 Ohio St. in Buffalo, the nonprofit BSRA provides community access to rowing on the Buffalo River.
