Book event to recognize fallen heroes from South Park High School

Jun 3, 2016 | In the News

Dog Ears Bookstore & Café will host Hamburg resident Matthew Parsons, a 1970 graduate of South Park High School, for a book-signing event from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 30. Parson’s book, “Our Fallen Warriors Remembered,” shares the stories of 155 individuals from South Park High School and their service to America in WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Of the individuals profiled, four lost their lives as prisoners of war and 30 remain missing in action.

Parsons served with the Buffalo Police Department for nearly 10 years before joining the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) in 1981 and retiring in 2011. His wife Mamie is also a South Park graduate.

“This is an incredible project and we want to make it a huge event for the entire South Buffalo community,” said Thomas McDonnell, director of the nonprofit bookstore. “All proceeds from the sale of this book will be used to support the Mallion-McKeever Award named for John A. Mallion and David M. McKeever, the first and most recent South Park High School students killed in action. The award will recognize students who exemplifies service, scholarship, sportsmanship and leadership.”
