Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village to offer student art show, Smithsonian event

The Williamsville District Art Show and Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day Live are featured events during March at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village, located at 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road, Amherst.

Artwork created by more than 300 K-12 students from the Williamsville School District will be on display March 7-16 at Heritage Village. Opening receptions will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. March 7 for elementary school participants, and from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 8 for middle and high school students. The student exhibit is free; access to the remainder of the museum is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors, and $2 for children 12 and under.

A Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day Live! event is planned from noon to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 12. Admission to the museum is free for all with a pass from the Smithsonian. To obtain your free pass, please visit http://www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/museum-day-live-march-2016.

Additionally, timber framing workshops with instructor Scott Schotz continue to be offered through March — from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays — at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village. Participants must be at least 18 years of age, and some woodworking or carpentry experience is helpful. Space is limited and reservations are required. In early April, join Heritage Village as they celebrate New York State Maple Weekend from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 2 and 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 3. The celebration will feature vendors, demonstrations, a Maple Syrup Pioneer Experience on Saturday and a pancake breakfast on Sunday.
