The calendar kicks off with a Civil War Symposium from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10. This year’s event will highlight the 100th New York Infantry Regimen and will honor the soldiers, families and descendants from this Western New York regiment. Guests will enjoy artifacts and informational displays in the Shaw Exhibit Building as well as a guest speaker! The cost is $8 for adults, $6 for military personnel and seniors, and $4 for children under 12. Children 3 and under are admitted free.

Adoption STAR and Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village are co-sponsoring the 5th annual 5K Run in the Country on Saturday, Sept. 24, starting at 9 a.m. In addition to the race, there will be a Kid’s Fun Run on the grounds starting at 10 a.m. followed by a post-race celebration at BNHV where music, food, beer provided by Flying Bison, and water will be provided. All proceeds will be split evenly between Adoption STAR and Heritage Village. And finally, guests are invited to visit Heritage Village from 8 to 10 p.m. Sept. 30 for a night of frights as they celebrate the opening of the Victorian Séance Series. These programs are designed especially for BNHV by Joel Dombrowski of www.BuffaloHistoryTours.com. For six nights this autumn, guests will learn about Spiritualism, Victorian mourning culture, and how death impacted the Western New York community in the 19th century. Each evening will begin with a talk and finish with a Victorian-style séance! Visit http://bnhv.org/event/victorian-seance-series for dates and additional information.
