Clinton Street Elementary: Gary Gaiser Run fourth grade champions

Oct 15, 2017 | Sports Scene

Driven by the motto “Your character counts everywhere … all the time,” the Clinton Street Elementary fourth grade girls and boys competed in the 16th annual Gary Gaiser run at Sunshine Park in West Seneca. Five West Seneca elementary schools strived for the trophies in the half-mile cross-country race on Sept. 23, including Winchester, Allendale, Clinton Street, West and Northwood.

The Six Pillars of Character were clearly visible for the entire district to see as 50 students from Clinton competed in the yearly contest. The team consisting of 23 girls and 27 boys ran the half-mile race on a beautiful morning and as a result of their hard work, dedication and determination, both teams were crowned champions of the race. Never before had Clinton Street Elementary won both trophies in the same year for the fourth grade girls and boys divisions.

The winning boys team was led by D.J. Benker who stole the show by taking first place out of 88 competitors with a time of 3:08.14 seconds. Hot on his heels were more top 10 finishers for the Cougars including Noah Cosgrove (third), Nathan Kaminski (seventh) and Colten Wolowski (ninth).

The strong girls team had what seemed to be a sea of green at the finish line as they had six top 10 finishers out of 69 participants including Hope Pettys (third), Kaitlyn Taylor (fourth), Reese Carter (sixth), Lily Burch (seventh), Braya Sweeney (eighth) and Kaylee Herlan (tenth).

Principal McCartan, Clinton Street Elementary and the physical education staff would like to send a huge congratulations to all of the participants and their parents for a job well done!
