Following the sold out performance of Shakti in 2017, Devi Bollywood Performing Arts is taking the stage again this fall with a spectacular new work titled Junoon: A Tribute to Courage. A kaleidoscope of color and imagination, Junoon is a captivating new work showcasing the beauty, strength and grace of Indian dance.
Gaitrie Devi, the artistic director of the company, continues to find new avenues of discovery and inspiration for choreography. Influenced by her children and her entrepreneurial journey, her newest creation focuses on courage, resilience and strength, fitting qualities for a mother and businesswoman.
“Over the past year, I’ve had to dig deep to find courage and strength,” she says, a lot of which was through the influence of her three children. This, and a desire to reconnect with her community, led Devi to her latest creation, Junoon.
The dancers of Devi Bollywood Performing Arts, currently in rehearsal for this performance, continue to push their artistry to new heights. Devi Bollywood Performing Arts is now in its sixth year and includes dancers from a variety of training backgrounds. Devi says their talent and creativity has helped her explore unexpected pathways in her choreography, giving way to fresh new ideas.
The show premieres at 7 p.m. Oct. 19 at the new home of Ujima Theater, located at 429 Plymouth Ave. in Buffalo. Tickets are available for purchase now at www.devibollywooddance.com.
