Feb 23, 2016 | 716 Jobs

Dog Ears Bookstore in South Buffalo is in immediate need of teacher volunteers to assist with new elementary school literacy programs that will be offered at the nonprofit bookstore beginning in March.

“We’re looking for individuals who can donate a couple of hours a month to serve as teaching mentors in our new after-school programs to be offered from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday,” said Dog Ears Director Thomas McDonnell. “Retired teachers and adults with some classroom experience are preferred.”

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the free program will target English Language Arts Skill Building, test prep and test-taking strategies, while peer tutoring and homework assistance will be the focus on Mondays and Wednesdays. The programs will be offered to students from Lorraine, Discovery, Southside and Hillery Park elementary schools in South Buffalo. New York State-certified teachers will also be on site each day, along with student volunteers from Bishop Timon-St. Jude High School and Mt. Mercy Academy.

For more information on the program or becoming a volunteer, please contact McDonnell at 823-2665. Dog Ears Bookstore is located at 688 Abbott Road, Buffalo.
