Drums Along the Waterfront announces partnership with Seneca Nation of Indians – Cattaraugus Community Center

Jul 20, 2016 | Arts & Culture

Drums Along the Waterfront (DATW) is pleased to announce that it has entered into an agreement with the Seneca Nation of Indians (SNI) – Cattaraugus Community Center (CCC) for the Drums Along the Waterfront Tour of Champions event taking place at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park.

“The SNI-CCC is a multipurpose state-of-the-art facility that has been expanding to bring a wide variety of events to Western New York,” said DATW Director Jack Gaylord Jr. “Not only has the SNI-CCC come on board as a corps sponsor for the Tour of Champions event, but they are also opening their facility to the Legends Drum & Bugle Corps from Kalamazoo, Michigan, from July 25 through July 27 for rehearsals and a ‘Prelude to DATW’ performance and educational program at 3:45 p.m. July 26. This event will give spectators a glimpse of the performances to come on Aug. 7 when the top seven drum corps in the world come to Western New York to compete.”

“I have spoken with directors of the Legends Drum & Bugle Corps and they are very excited for this unique opportunity to learn more about the Seneca culture,” Gaylord added. “It will also be a great educational experience for the Seneca youth as they will have an opportunity to meet with these drum corps performers who come from all over the country.”

In addition to the July 26 performance on Wolf’s Run Field adjacent to the CCC, the Legends will hold a rehearsal from 1 to 9 p.m. July 25 at Gowanda’s Hillis Field. Both events are open to the public. On July 27, the Legends will conclude their Western New York visit with a trip to Niagara Falls.
