Five local schools record the first virtual BAND Against Bullying performance

Oct 11, 2020 | Entertainment

BAND Against Bullying, the annual competition and outreach program established in 2012 to raise bullying awareness, has been virtually produced with the help of WNED for the first time for 2020. BAND Against Bullying Virtual will be aired on the BAND Against Bullying YouTube Channel, Facebook Page and www.nybandagainstbullying.org at 7 p.m. Oct. 20.

The lead sponsors for this production are M&T Bank, Kiss 98.5, Nova Healthcare Administrators, Ingram Micro, and Buffalo Protection and Investigations.

BAND Against Bullying is an inter-school music and arts performance related to the theme of “dignity.” Students from five local high schools will present themed performances to raise community awareness of bullying-related issues and to raise support of anti-bullying education efforts. Clarence, Iroquois, Lancaster, Williamsville East High Schools and Buffalo Public School #84 will be performing. Special guest Nicholas Picholas from Kiss 98.5 will emcee and the acts will be applauded by a panel of five exclusive celebrity and guest judges.

Bullying and harassment occur frequently among youth. One out of three students are involved as perpetrator, target or both. Bullying and harassment are related to social, emotional, behavioral and academic problems, and can impact all involved, according to the events’ organizers.
