Knighthawks supporting Ronald McDonald House

Dec 7, 2015 | Sports Scene

The Rochester Knighthawks have teamed up with the Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) of Rochester this holiday season. The Knighthawks will collect donations during the next two weeks to benefit RMHC and its mission of creating, finding and supporting programs that directly improve the health and wellbeing of children.

“The Rochester Knighthawks are proud to partner the Ronald McDonald House,” said Knighthawks Vice President Jody Gage. “Our owner, Curt Styres, is a strong believer in giving back to the community. We hope that our support can provide some joy to the kids and their families during the holidays.”

The Knighthawks will accept donations for the Ronald McDonald House Charities® at the free preseason game on Saturday, Dec. 12. Fans can drop off small toys, gift cards, gas cards or monetary donations at the RMHC table prior to the 8 p.m. game against the Georgia Swarm at Connors & Ferris Field at The Blue Cross Arena. Donations will also be accepted at the Knighthawks Office at 144 Exchange Blvd., Suite 102 until Friday, Dec. 11.

As a special treat, the Knighthawks will host members of the Ronald McDonald House at their home preseason game. The Knighthawks partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities® will also extend beyond the preseason event. On Thursday, Dec. 10, members of the front office staff will cook dinner for the kids, their families and RMHC volunteers.

“We’re so fortunate to have community partners such as the Knighthawks. They use their popularity in Rochester to help raise awareness of our programs and services, and serve as positive role models for youngsters by performing community service,” said Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Rochester President Carol DeMoulin. “We love having them at the Ronald McDonald House, and our families are looking forward to the dinner the team will provide on Dec. 10.”

Ronald McDonald House Charities® is celebrating its 25th Anniversary after opening in February 1990. Since then, they have provided a haven for more than 10,000 families traveling to Rochester for their child’s specialized medical care. Last year, Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Rochester supported more than 900 families and children through the generous donations of donors and volunteers.
