Mount Mercy Speech and Drama Team competing virtually

Dec 25, 2021 | Arts & Culture

Mount Mercy Academy’s Speech and Drama Team has spent the first part of the school year competing virtually against teams from Buffalo, Rochester and Albany.

Senior Adrianna Awald (Gowanda) continues, as she has for the past three years, her winning ways in Oral Interpretation of Literature, performing an excerpt from We Have Always Lived In the Castle by Shirley Jackson. Awald has medaled at every tournament she entered this year and has qualified for the State Championships at Hofstra University in April.

Sophomore Vayana Stoyanova (Gowanda) also has been performing well in Oral Interpretation and qualified for the state tournament. Stoyanova performs selections of prose and poetry, including a selection from The White Rose by Inge Scholl, which details the story of an anti-Nazi group during World War II.

Also competing for the Magic are juniors Kayla Pietrkiewicz (Buffalo) and Alie Reid (Gowanda), sophomore Andra’Nique Hudson (Buffalo), and freshmen Isabelle Reaska (Orchard Park) and Addison Zimmer (Cheektowaga). They compete in events such as Dramatic Interpretation, Original Oratory and Extemporaneous Speaking.
