Royal Ontario Museum’s new after-hours event series offers a ‘bloody’ Valentine’s Day experience

Feb 9, 2020 | Arts & Culture

On Friday, Feb. 14, the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) in nearby Toronto is inviting guests to experience a Valentine’s Day they will never forget at ROM After Dark: Desire.

Following the sold-out debut of ROM After Dark (RAD): Lunar in January, Desire will see the ROM adorned in themes of love and lust … and the taste of blood. In addition to free admission to the ROM-original exhibition, Bloodsuckers: Legends to Leeches, guests will discover a variety of themed sensory experiences, including an ROM-expert-led journey into the Museum’s deepest, darkest secrets of passion and longing.

Unforgettable musical moments and live burlesque performances will animate the spaces, including singer/songwriter DESIIRE, DJ Sara Simms and performers TEASE, Pastel Supernova and the legendary Farra N. Hyte. Themed gastronomical experiences from Chef Corbin Tomaszeski will titillate taste buds at custom locations around the event, while live jazz will infuse C5 with soulful sonics from the Alison Young Quartet featuring Queen Pepper.

Science, culture and carnal desire come to life in Bloodsuckers: Legends to Leeches. Open to all guests until 10:30 p.m., Bloodsuckers explores the over 30,000 animals that feed on blood — and unearthly cultural stories they have inspired, from Carmilla to the Chupacabra.

ROM After Dark (RAD) is the evolution of the Museum’s event series, Friday Night Live. Taking place on select Fridays from 7 to 11:30 p.m., RAD is a specially ticketed event for adults 19+. Tickets are on sale now. Prices are $27 for ROM Members, $30 for adults, and $24 for post-secondary students (all plus HST). One complimentary drink or food ticket is included with admission. For guaranteed entry purchase tickets in advance at rom.on.ca/rad. Groups of 20 or more receive 20% off admission. For details regarding groups, email gr********@ro*.ca.
