In cooperation with the Boys & Girls Club of East Aurora, the Rural Outreach Center (ROC) distributed 120 backpacks filled with school supplies to local children. Children were participants in other ROC activities or were identified by schools as needing assistance.
Backpacks and supplies were donated by a variety of community groups and individuals. Many were donated as part of WGRZ’s “2 Pack a Backpack” promotion.
Purchasing school packs and supplies can cost over $100 per child, representing a significant cost for many families. The ROC’s backpack program relieves this financial burden and helps children receiving these packs start the year knowing they won’t be deficient in supplies, something that can negatively affect early childhood academic performance.
Backpacks were distributed at an event hosted by the Boys & Girls Club of East Aurora. Volunteers also offered free haircuts, arts and crafts and science exploration activities, as well as health care opportunities.
The ROC provides multiple services to help individuals and families move from dependency to self-sufficiency. For more information, please visit www.theroc.co or call 240-2220 to schedule an informational tour.
