Spring is the perfect time for a home remodeling project

Feb 10, 2018 | In the News

It’s been a long winter, but homeowners are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and know that the start of spring is right around the corner. And in addition to annual spring cleaning rituals, many homeowner also find it the right time to take on a home improvement project.

Bathroom, kitchen and basement remodels can add eye-appeal and value to any home. From a fresh coat of paint to the addition of beautiful crown molding to a major room renovation, there’s no shortage of projects that might be on your to-do list. Here are some of the larger projects that will take a little time and money, but will pay dividends in the long run.

Bathroom
Adding a bathroom for your own comfort or convenience is a smart idea, especially if you have a house full of kids and several people trying to get ready at the same time. If a complete addition is out of your price range, you may want to consider giving your current bathroom(s) a fresh look.

“For starters, pick one area of need and make it your focal point,” said Justin Santonocito, owner of All Pro Services of WNY, a local home improvement company that specializes in remodeling jobs of any size. “Maybe that means replacing your sink and vanity or an old bathtub or toilet. Perhaps it’s as simple as new fixtures, a new shower door and a fresh coat of paint. Bathroom remodels are a top trend in 2018 and will benefit you as long as you occupy the home, and will also make it more attractive to potential buyers if selling your home is in the not-too-distant future.”

Kitchen
A well-designed kitchen can do so many things, from incorporating style to improving overall function. “Who wouldn’t want to make their everyday kitchen responsibilities a little easier?” asked Santonocito. “Popular kitchen upgrades might include a suite of matching stainless steel appliances, beautiful quartz countertops, new lighting, the installation of new cabinets, additional storage space, or a new kitchen table and chairs.

“The kitchen is typically the favorite family gathering space in a home, so homeowners should make it as comfortable and functional as possible.”

Basement
Basements can be so much more than a cement floor and cement walls. In many homes today, the basement has been converted into additional family space such as a rec room or fitness center.

“Before beginning a basement project, you’ll want to tackle any moisture problems that exist. Once that is done, let your imagination run wild,” Santonocito said. “A redesigned basement will add to your home’s usable living space and also add to the overall value of the home. It’s a wise investment.”

Before starting any home improvement project, be realistic about the time it will take to complete the job and the overall cost associated with the project. Look for a company that is both licensed and insured and has a strong reputation in the industry and community. And finally, ask for a free project estimate, remembering that the lowest estimate is not always the best.
