West Seneca farmers’ market to host local author on August 11

Aug 5, 2016 | Events

Main Street Marketplace, West Seneca’s popular open-air farmers’ and food producers’ marketplace sponsored by the Western New York Federal Credit Union, continues on Thursday, Aug. 11. The weekly event takes place from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday evenings through Sept. 1 on the grassy hill at the corner of Union Road and Main Street, next to West Seneca Town Hall.

The outdoor venue features approximately 25 vendors selling a wide variety of products. Seneca Springs Wellness will host the market’s community group table on Aug. 11, while Porcelain Train will provide musical entertainment from approximately 5:30 to 7 p.m. The market’s Family Fun Zone features several games for the enjoyment of kids of all ages.

Also on Aug. 11, the market welcomes local author and gardening expert Jackie Albarella, who will sign copies of her most recent book and answer any gardening questions you may have. Her book, “Dirty Tricks in the Garden,” shares an easy to understand, helpful collection of gardening tips for everyone from the beginner to the seasoned gardener. Written in a common sense, down to earth manner, it includes tips such as how to keep squirrels from digging up your tulip bulbs, growing potatoes in a garbage bag and using your plants to create new plants. Albarella is a lifelong gardener and can be seen Saturdays on WGRZ -TV’s Weekend Daybreak.

While some picnic tables are provided at the market, guests are invited to bring a blanket or chairs for their comfort. Well-behaved dogs are allowed on a leash. The market is rain or shine; in the event of unfavorable weather conditions, the market moves into the parking lot in front of the West Seneca Ice Rink.
