Main Street Marketplace, West Seneca’s open-air farmers’ and food producers’ marketplace sponsored by the Western New York Federal Credit Union, is seeking several new vendors for its 16-week 2016 season. The market, held on the grassy hill at the corner of Union Road and Main Street, will take place from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays from May 12 through Sept. 1.

“We are currently accepting applications and hope to attract a wide variety of new farmers and food producers,” said the market’s manager, Joe Kirchmyer. “While our emphasis remains on food products, we will consider other categories as long as they are local companies featuring hand-crafted or unique products. Our goal is to continue to provide a strong variety of products that will be of interest to a wide audience.”

Kirchmyer emphasized that this is a key year for the market, and he hopes to see a large increase in attendance.

“This will be our third season up on the hill, and it’s very important that we grow our audience if we want to continue to have an outdoor market in West Seneca,” said Kirchmyer. “It’s great seeing a lot of familiar faces at the market each week, but seeing new faces has become a necessity. We’d love to see more people from the surrounding neighborhoods make a habit of walking to the market each Thursday to purchase a few products and enjoy an evening with family and friends at a fun outdoor venue. Our goal for 2016 is to double our weekly attendance.”

Kirchmyer said he hopes to bring more frequent entertainment, themed nights and large tabletop games to the market this season in an effort to attract more families.

The market is held rain or shine; in the event of rain or wet conditions, it moves off the grass and into the parking lot in front of the West Seneca ice rink.
